Game Certification and Licensing Basics for Suppliers

What test labs like GLI, BMM and iTech Labs certify, and why regulated markets ask game suppliers for licences.

Regulated markets want proof that casino games are fair and that suppliers are trustworthy. That proof comes from two places.

Game certification

Independent test labs such as GLI, BMM Testlabs, iTech Labs and eCOGRA test a game’s random number generator and maths against a market’s technical rules. Each certificate covers specific games, versions and markets.

Supplier licensing

Many regulators also license the company that supplies the games. Examples include the Malta Gaming Authority B2B licence, the UK Gambling Commission gambling software licence and US state supplier licences.

Why it matters

Licensed operators in regulated markets can usually only offer certified games from approved suppliers. Each market has its own rules, so suppliers plan certifications and licences market by market with legal advice.
